Swim & Dive Opens New Year at Johns Hopkins

The Bison women win their sixth dual meet of the 2021-22 campaign
BALTIMORE – The Bucknell swimming & diving teams returned to competition by facing off against Johns Hopkins at Newton White Athletic Center Natatorium.
The Bison women scored a 160-89 victory to improve to 6-1 (4-1 PL) on the season. The men's team ceded a 166-95 decision to the host Blue Jays, moving to 5-2 (4-1 PL).
On the women's side, Alexis Faria (100 & 200 butterfly), Maddie Hartigan (100 & 1,000 freestyle) and Sabrina Vumbacco (200 & 500 freestyle) each won two races, with Hartigan adding a runner-up effort in the 50 freestyle.
Catherine Craig (200 breaststroke), Abby Doss (100 breaststroke) and Esme Hunter (200 backstroke) rounded out the women's team's individual victors, with Doss also finishing second in the 200 backstroke.
In addition, Vumbacco and Craig teamed with Meghan Taner and Kayla Lichtner for a first-place showing in the 200 medley relay.
Notably, the Bucknell women went 1-2-3 in both breaststroke races and in the 200 freestyle.
On the men's side, Andy Dorsel outraced the field in the 200 IM; he added runner-up efforts in the 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Liam Pitt, Chris Kopac, Chris Fabian and John Gehrig also captured a victory.
Dating back to the 2018-19 campaign, the Bison women have posted an incredible 27-3 (20-3 PL) record in dual meets; all three of their losses came to reigning Patriot League champion Navy.
Bucknell next resumes Patriot League competition by traveling to Loyola (Md.) for a 12 p.m. dual meet on Friday, Jan. 14. The Bison then host Army West Point at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15.
