LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's track & field resumed its indoor season at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday, competing for the first time since the Bison Opener back on Dec. 4.
Final Results
Joining the Bison at the meet was Duquesne, Georgetown, Loyola (Md.), Maryland, Pittsburgh, Robert Morris, Saint Francis, Saint Joseph's and UMBC.
"It was a typical first meet after break for us. Some guys looked super, others looked rusty, and others really struggled out there. The competition was very good. We do have a ways to go if we want to be competitive in the Patriot League, and this meet should set us up very good for next weekend's Gulden Invitational at home. I was very pleased with our men's throws, we ran a solid DMR, and Scotto ran well in the Hurdles again," said head coach Kevin Donner.
Headlining Bucknell's performers on Saturday was sophomore Ethan Wolford-Tuffy, who placed third in the 400 with a 50.03.
Bucknell also saw a pair of athletes finish in the top five in weight throw. Sophomore Robert Feeney (53-11.75) and junior John Calisi (52-11.50) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Both set new personal bests with their marks. Also placing top-eight in throwing events was Anthony Zamarra in the shot put (6th, 52-08.00).
Standing out from the rookie class was hurdler Brian Scotto, who entered Bucknell's all-time top 10 at the Bison Opener earlier in the season. Scotto finished eighth (8.47) in the 60m hurdle finals on Saturday after coming in at seventh in the prelims.
Sophomore Alex Simpson earned a seventh-place finish in the 800 (1:58.36), and senior Jaden Rouse placed sixth in the triple jump (43-00.25).
Bucknell's distance medley relay team, consisting of Owen Chase, Wolford-Tuffy, rookie Colby Belczyk, and Brendan O'Toole, placed second (10:13.94).
Lastly, sophomore Miguel Negrete finished among the top eight in pole vault, clearing 14-05.25 to place sixth.
Bucknell returns to Lewisburg to host the Gulden Invite on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Gerhard Fieldhouse. It's the first of two back-to-back meets the Bison will be hosting in the coming weeks.
