About the Bison
- Bucknell competes in its third meet of the season and its second home meet. The team hosted the Bison Opener back on Dec. 3 and took part in the Nittany Lion Challenge in State College, Pa. last weekend. Neither meet was scored, and this weekend will be the first scored meet of the season. Saturday's events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
- The Gulden Invite was not held last season due to the shortened schedule, but the Bison won the meet in 2020 with 199 points. Bucknell claimed several top finishes in 2020, including wins in the pole vault, weight throw, 500 and the 1000.
- Bucknell's distance medley team, consisting of Owen Chase, Ethan Wolford-Tuffy, Colby Belczyk and Brendan O'Toole, placed second (10:13.94) at last weekend's Nittany Lion Challenge. Wolford-Tuffy was also Bucknell's highest-placing individual, earning third (50.03) in the 400.
- The Bison also had two athletes place in the top five in weight throw, with Robert Feeney coming in fourth (53-11.75) and John Calisi finishing fifth (52-11.50).
- Bucknell saw another impressive race by rookie Brian Scotto, who placed eighth in the 60m hurdles. Scotto recorded a Bucknell all-time top 10 time at the Bison Opener in December, running an 8.31 in the event to rank sixth in the record books.
- The Gulden Invite is held in honor of Hall-of-Fame coach Art Gulden, who led the highly successful Bucknell track & field program from 1969-2001.
Coach Donner's Take
"Both of our teams are very excited about this meet. We have some very solid, fully-dimensional and balanced teams coming to the meet. We are handing out awards after the meet and scoring the meet, which you do not see too often anymore during the regular season. Chasing times and distances seems to be more of a priority rather than head-to-head competition, which is what I believe in. Shippensburg's men have won many conference titles in a row, and they are one of the top Division II schools in the country. I love having them at our home meets because they are tough athletes who really 'bring it.' They are better than most Division I programs. The Saint Francis women won the NEC last year by a record amount of points and finished third at the ECAC Championships last spring, only behind Navy and Army, and they beat us. They are tremendous at the sprints and jumps. We usually see very good improvement between the first and second meet after the holiday break and our team training camp where we overload the training. This is that week."
