LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Lily Neilson was named the Patriot League Field Hockey Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Neilson earns her first league honors after scoring her second goal of the season in Friday's game at Villanova.
Neilson, a first-year defender from New South Wales, Australia, scored Bucknell's lone goal in the 43rd minute of Friday's game off a penalty corner. It was the rookie's second-consecutive game scoring after putting away the game-tying goal in the win over LIU the previous weekend. She now leads the team with two on the season and is tied with Mackenzie Kile with four points.
Neilson has provided a spark off the bench through four games and sports a team-high nine shots while averaging 38 minutes per contest. She posted six more shots over the weekend, putting three on goal.
Bucknell's Erin Zielinski and Kile were honorable mentions for weekly awards on Monday. Kile scored the game-tying goal against Temple on Sunday and supplied an assist on the game winner. Zielinski also had an assist over the weekend and captained a Bison defense that held Temple off the scoreboard over the final three quarters of the victory.
Bucknell returns to action on Sunday to play Lock Haven on the road at 1 p.m.
