LEWISBURG, Pa. --The Bucknell University men's water polo team will host two big MAWPC matches on Sunday, September 26.
Bucknell will take on George Washington at Kinney Natatorium at 1 p.m. before entertaining Wagner for the second time in a little over a week at 5 p.m. Both games will be available to watch for free, courtesy of the CWPA, at this link. Â
- The contests mark six games in a row for the Bison at Kinney Natatorium, where the Bison won't return to after this weekend until Saturday, October 30 against Mount St. Mary's.Â
- Bucknell dropped its first two games of the Bison Invite last weekend, falling 13-9 to Fordham before dropping a 14-11 decision to Wagner.Â
- The Bison rebounded with two wins on Sunday, including an exciting 12-11 win over SFC Brooklyn.Â
- Bucknell trailed by as many as four, 10-6, with 2:31 left in the third, but used a strong fourth quarter to propel itself to a come-from-behind win over the Terriers.Â
- Bucknell improved to 10-34 all time against the Terriers with the win, and have taken three of the past four meetings. The last ten meetings between the two schools dating back to 2014 have been decided by three goals or less.Â
- Jack Lewis came up with two big goals for the Bison in the fourth in overturning the deficit. Lewis scored his first goal from near the top of the center with the shot clock winding down to give Bucknell its first lead, 11-10, since the 6:02 mark of the first quarter.Â
- St. Francis equalized just 30 seconds later, but Lewis was on hand again at the buzzer, receiving a nice cross pass from Hasan Mogultay for his fourth goal of the game, a career-best. The four-goal game capped off a solid weekend for the senior, who needs 16 goals to reach 100 for his career. Â
- Josh Yardley has emerged as one of Bucknell's primary scoring threats after showing glimpses of his scoring prowess in the shortened winter season. Yardley led the squad in scoring with 12 goals last winter, and is off to a strong start with 36 goals to date through Bucknell's first 12 games. Yardley tied his season best with six goals against Wagner, and scored 12 goals in total over the weekend.Â
- Andu Vlasceanu continues to creep closer to the 100-goal milestone for his career despite the shortened winter campaign. The junior from Bucharest, Romania needs just 10 goals to reach 100 for his career, and is Bucknell's active leading scorer with 90 career tallies.
- Behind Yardley, the Bison have had a balanced attack, with Mogultay (19), Doruk Ozar (14), and Vlasceanu (14) each notching 14 or more goals. First year Matt Ryckman (12), Lewis (11), and Walker Butler (10) have each recorded double figures in the scoring column this season.Â
- The Bison featured nine different goal scorers in the win over Salem, where the Bison scored a season-high 18 goals. The 18 goals for Bucknell are the most by the program since a 21-3 victory over La Salle on November 2, 2019.        Â
- Bucknell meets George Washington this weekend for the first time since February 27 of this year, a narrow 8-7 win for the Bison. Bucknell is 6-3 in the past nine meetings between the two schools dating back to 2017, and the two teams met for the MAWPC Championship in both 2018 and 2019. The Colonials are 2-6 this season, but have played a challenging early schedule that includes four ranked opponents. GW went 1-1 at the Harvard Mini-Invite on Saturday, September 18, falling to No. 18 Harvard before outlasting Brown, 12-11, in overtime.Â
- The Colonials will take on MAWPC foes Johns Hopkins and Mount St. Mary's on Friday and Saturday before heading to Lewisburg for Sunday's fixture.  Â
- Wagner is 6-6 this season, and went 3-1 at the Bison Invite. The Seahawks split their two MAWPC matchups, defeating the Bison before falling to Fordham, 15-11. Wagner will take on Navy and Princeton on Saturday in Princeton before taking on the Bison on Sunday at 5 p.m.
- After Sunday's games, the Bison will continue their MAWPC slate with three games from October 16-17 against George Washington, Navy, and Johns Hopkins.Â
