Defending PL Champion Ramos Earns Win in Fall Debut
LORETTO, Pa. -- Defending Patriot League individual champion Ashlyn Ramos made her return in cross country this weekend in earning first-place honors at the Father Bede Invite on Saturday morning. Â Bucknell took first with 15 points ahead of the Red Flash (50). Â
"We got exactly what we were hoping for by both genders," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "Our top people were able to run together with a very controlled effort and the challenging course, and the hills gave us a great training effect. This is a true cross country course in which it's impossible to establish a rhythm, and you need to stay focused and just have a tough mindset. Our runners did just that. Now we have three weeks to train and prepare for the Paul Short Invite, in which the field will be large and competitive."  Â
Ramos was the only runner to break 20 minutes, crossing the line in a time of 19:48.2 to earn first-place honors. Â The Bison tallied the first seven runners in the field, and ten of the first 11 on the day. Â Abby Paczewski was second (20:02.7), followed by Patriot League Runner of the Week Emily Deschler (20:13.6). Â Karly Forker, Sarah Policano, Olivia Dyer, and Mia Bellucci rounded out the top seven for the Bison. Deschler competed against her sister Alyssa Deschler of the Red Flash, who finished 17th.Â
Keeley Misutka, Kate Amaddio, and Laura Sakol also placed in the top 11 for the Bison in the field of 33. Â
Asta Rustad, Allyson Clarke, Hollie Walters, Jamie Falla, Margaret McLoughlin, Kera Reinhard, Eva Lindner, Meredith Haberfield, and Samantha Killiany also competed for the Bison on the day. Â Â
Bucknell will have several weeks off to prepare for the Paul Short Invite on October 1. Â
