LEWISBURG, Pa.- Shaelan McNally's 2025 campaign has been one of the most fruitful in recent years for Bucknell women's cross country and her performance at the Patriot League Championships enhanced her already burgeoning resume. In deference to her accolades, the Bucknell Athletic Department awarded the sophomore sensation with her second career Bison of the Week on Monday.Â
"Shaelan has had a tremendous season and has been very consistent with her racing and training," said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. "She had a lot of health issues as a freshman last year and had trouble adapting to the collegiate lifestyle, but this year she has adjusted and has been healthy and the results have been outstanding."
McNally's second place finish at the League Championships on Halloween at Lehigh led the Bison charge to its highest finish (second) since 2019 - Bucknell also placed second that year. The Bison entered the competition, seeking to top their 2024's placement of fourth, and McNally, who finished 22nd last year, powered the Orange & Blue to the result.Â
The sophomore distancewoman ran an impressive 20:39.8. She led at the one mile mark before the event winner Army senior Charlotte Richman edged past her. Second place is the highest finish for a Bison since the legendary Ashlyn Ramos won the competition in 2021. McNally will enter the 2026 League Championships as the prohibitive favorite.Â
The 2025 season has been a great bounce back year for the young runner. She has collected two wins and two second place finishes and has a fine chance at All-Region honors. She also became the first Bison women's cross country runner since Ramos in 2021 to win Bison of the Week twice in a season.Â
McNally and the Bison return to Lehigh on Nov. 14 for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals.Â
