Women's Tennis Wraps Up Moore Invitational's First Day

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell women's tennis team excelled at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational on Friday at Navy's Brigade Sports Complex.
In the 'A' Honor singles flight, Daniela Bellini continued her winning ways. She dispatched Monmouth's Ann Spurka, 6-1, 6-1, to earn a spot in tomorrow's quarterfinals against Fairleigh Dickinson's Gauri Bhagia. She has now won the first four matches of her senior campaign.
The Bison had two reach the quarterfinals in the 'B' Courage singles bracket. Tyne Miller rallied from a first set loss to top Fairleigh Dickinson's Alena Kubanova, 2-6, 7-5, 10-1; she will square off against Navy's Meghana Komarraju tomorrow. Behind a first-round bye, Whitney King will face Navy's Katreina Corpuz in the quarterfinals.
In the 'C' Commitment singles flight, Anna Lajos received a first-round bye and will take on Binghamton's Kyra Bergmann tomorrow.
At 'D' Loyalty singles, Kate Novak advanced to the quarterfinals behind a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Monmouth's Lauren Landstrom; there, she will face off against Navy's Sylvia Eklund. Behind a first-round bye, Caroline Marcus captured a berth in the quarterfinal's against Fairleigh Dickinson's Smriti Singh.
In the 'A' Honor doubles flight, Bellini and King advanced to the quarterfinals behind an 8-0 shutout of Binghamton's Caterina Casadei and Lara Kaplan. Then, they reached the semifinals on the strength of a tight 8-6 victory over St. Bonaventure's Anastasia Gubanova and Andrea Roque. Tomorrow, they will take on Navy's Corpuz and Komarraju for a spot in the championship bout.
Miller and Dax Seidlin also reached the 'A' doubles quarterfinals behind an 8-5 victory over Monmouth's Spurka and Nicole Gasser. There, they fell to Mary Washington's Lauren Quinn and Abby Moghtader by an 8-4 margin.
Both of Bucknell's teams in the 'B' Courage doubles flight fell in their quarterfinal matches. Their tandem in the 'C' Loyalty doubles bracket also was dispatched in the quarterfinals.
The Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational continues tomorrow, with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
