ASHLEY FRANKEL NAMED HEAD CHEERLEADING COACH AT BUCKNELL
Â
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Ashley Frankel has been named the new head cheerleading coach at Bucknell University. Frankel, who served as a volunteer assistant with the Bison program for the past three years, has 15 years of choreography experience, including a stint from 2014-2017 as the Spirit Program Director at the University of Pennsylvania.
Â
While at Penn, Frankel mentored 35 athletes on two different teams and founded the Ivy League Cheerleading Championships in 2015. She also tripled the program's fundraising efforts in her first year.
Â
Prior to her time with the Quakers, Frankel was the head coach at Pocono Mountain East High School, leading her squad to back-to-back state championship appearances in the two years she was there. During her time there, she also founded the Diamond All-Stars in Mount Pocono, a Level 3 All-Star program. Her Diamond squads won two national championships.  Â
Â
Frankel graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 2014 with a B.S. in communication studies, and she later earned her M.S. in sports management from Liberty University. She has also had experience working on Bucknell's campus in the Office of Civic Engagement, where she was the director of the Community Service Federal Work Study Program.
Â
Joining Frankel on the staff is Maggie Miran, who returns to the Bucknell cheer program for her third year as a volunteer assistant coach. Miran is a 2013 graduate of Butler University, where she was a four-year member of the cheerleading program. Miran was in the program there and on the floor in Lexington, Kentucky when Bucknell took on Butler in the first-round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in 2013.
Â
Frankel succeeds longtime coach Megan Lindner, who stepped down this summer to pursue other professional opportunities.
