Men's Tennis Introduces Three Newcomers to 2021-22 Roster

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Head coach Bruce Myers and the Bucknell men's tennis team announced the addition of three newcomers to the 2021-22 roster on Thursday. The class is made up of two rookies and one transfer student-athlete, and the Bison roster now sits at 10 heading into fall competition. Bucknell is coming off a truncated spring season that saw the team earn the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament with a 2-2 conference record. Myers is entering his sixth season with the Bison.

Before Bucknell: Team captain in Rials U-21 team and team captain in Cercle Sabadelles U-18 team … two-time semifinalist in the U-18 Catalunya Regional League Tournament … 12-0 singles record, 8-0 doubles record, 10-2 team record as captain … ranked 400 in Royal Spanish Tennis Federation rankings, ranked 300 in Tennis Europe rankings … has wins over 12 and 13 UTR level players.
Personal: Born Feb. 12, 2003 … attended Laurel Springs online school … dual citizenship of Italy and Brazil … primarily trains in Spain … also competed in surfing … son of Carmen Baldelli and Carlos Carvalho … has two siblings, Joana Hansen and Antonia Carvalho.
Why he chose Bucknell: "I posted my college recruiting video on YouTube, and after an hour I got a message from Coach Myers. It felt like destiny. He captivated me, and I started researching about Bucknell. The more I knew about the university the more I liked it. After a couple of months, I had only a few schools in mind, even though I applied to several and got accepted to the great majority. It's not always good things that come to you, but this time I got lucky. My connection with Bruce certainly played a significant role in my decision."

Before Bucknell: Transferred from UNCW … ranked as high as No. 30 by TennisRecruiting.net … achieved ITF World Junior Ranking of No. 473 after winning 4 ITF event in Bahamas…finished third and won the bronze ball at USTA Super-National Clay Courts in 2017.
Personal: Born March 9, 2001 … transferred from UNCW … son of Biran and Lori.
Why he chose Bucknell: "It's a perfect mix of tennis and academics. I want to have the opportunity to pursue my professional tennis dreams while having an exceptional degree to utilize during and after my playing days are over. This is a great team, an exceptional group of guys, and a Patriot League title is certainly within reach."

Before Bucknell: Took a gap year due to COVID-19 travel restrictions … played in second-highest league in Switzerland for LTC Winterthur Club … reached quarterfinal of Junior Swiss Championships twice … National League B Team member.
