Bucknell Football Lands Record 56 on PL Academic Honor Roll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell football team landed a record 56 student-athletes on the 2021 Spring Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday.

The Bison shattered their previous school standard of 48 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll members, which was set in 2017. They have now placed at least 40 student-athletes on this listing for five-straight years.

This season's total represented over 67 percent of the team's roster. Bucknell landed five more student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll than second-place Georgetown (51). The Bison and Hoyas were the only teams with at least 50 Academic Honor Roll honorees this spring.

As a team, Bucknell recorded a combined grade point average of 3.25 during the spring semester. Seven Bison recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs: senior John McGuire, junior Tarrin Earle and freshmen Adam Barakat, Chi Nnawuba, Ethan Pitzel, Nick Semptimphelter and Harrison Shepherd.

In addition, fifth year Tyler Keiser and seniors Rick Mottram and Simeon Page posted GPAs north of 3.90. Mottram, a two-time CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American and the 2021 Spring Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and Page previously represented Bucknell on this year's Academic All-Patriot League and FCS ADA Academic All-Star Teams; Mottram was also joined by fellow senior Conner Romango on this year's CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Team.

Six seniors were recognized all four years of their time in Lewisburg: McGuire, Mottram, Page, Romango, Simon Behr and Ryan Brida.

In addition, seven of Bucknell's 2021 Spring All-Patriot League selections made the Academic Honor Roll: Page, senior P.J. Barr, junior Jared Cooper, junior Dominic Lyles, sophomore Gavin Pringle, senior Nnamdi Unachukwu and senior Gerrit Van Itallie.

To qualify for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must have achieved a minimum 3.20 GPA during the semester in which their team competed. A total of 283 football players were honored this season. The following are the Bucknell football team's 2021 Spring Patriot League Academic Honor Roll members:
