LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey's Kaelyn Long was announced as a Third Team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Tuesday. Long is the second player in program history to earn All-American status, joining Lauren Campbell '01.
Long adds the All-American honor to a host of awards she's received following Bucknell's postseason run this spring. Long was voted NFHCA All-Region and named to the NFHCA Senior Team in May. She also earned First Team All-Patriot League recognition after captaining a Bucknell team that captured its first-ever Patriot League Championship, and she secured Patriot League Tournament MVP status by scoring the game-winning goal in overtime of the title match against top-seeded Boston U.
Long was also named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team and received Bucknell's Alvin F. Jackson award for her outstanding academic and athletic achievements.
During the shortened spring 2021 campaign, Long played in and started nine of the team's 10 games. The Hanover, Pa. native led the Bison in shots (30) and was second on the roster in points (two goals, two assists).
Long came through in some of the biggest moments for the Bison this spring. She provided an assist on the game-winning goal in double-overtime during a crucial 2-1 victory over American, and her three points (one goal, one assist) against Lafayette helped the team capture a 3-2 win in the regular season finale.
The defender ends her Bucknell career with 64 games played, 47 starts, nine goals and seven assists. She's a two-time All-Patriot League selection, a two-time member of the Academic All-Patriot League Team, and a three-time NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad member.
Long was joined on the 48-player All-American list by fellow Patriot League student-athletes Noor Coenen (Second Team) of American and Kathryn Scheerer (Third Team) of Boston U.
ICYMI, here's Kaelyn Long becoming the second player in Bucknell field hockey history to have her named called as an All-American. Kaelyn, thank you for everything you've done for the program and the Bucknell community as a whole during your time. #rayBucknell pic.twitter.com/7XjaLSXNqy
