RESULTS
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Chris Tanabe posted the second-best final-round score in the field with an even-par 70, helping the Bucknell men's golf team maintain its fourth-place standing as the Patriot League Championship wrapped up on Sunday at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course.
The Bison compiled a 304 team score on Sunday after rounds of 300 and 311 a day earlier. With a 915 total, they held off Army for the No. 4 spot by just four strokes. Bucknell also finished in front of Lehigh (921), Colgate (924) and Holy Cross (954).
Loyola finished with a 290 for a 54-hole total of 866, and that was plenty good enough for an 18-shot win over Navy. The Midshipmen started the final round in third place but surpassed Lafayette by one shot.
The Bison started the day on the 10th hole and got off to a slow start before rallying on the course's front side. The team managed only two birdies going out, but then had eight over the final nine holes.
Tanabe logged three birdies to offset three bogeys, giving him Bucknell's best score of the weekend. Tanabe, Bucknell's lone senior, finished in a tie for 13th place with a 54-hole total of 226.
Bucknell's low man for the tournament was Blake Wisdom with a 224 (76-73-75). Wisdom finished T-11th, missing a top-10 standing and All-Tournament honors by just one shot.
Elsewhere for Bucknell on Sunday, Jason Lohwater carded a 79, and Jackson Bussell, Jack Gardner and Josh Holtschlag all shot 80.
It was a two-man race between Loyola teammates for the individual title. Brandon Berry shot 72 on Sunday to finish at 1-over 211. Berry led after all three rounds and held off Evan Brown by three strokes for the championship. Six players tied for third place, well back at 221 (+11).
