Men's Tennis Senior Marwan Abaza Voted Academic All-Patriot League

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Marwan Abaza of Bucknell men's tennis was recognized as one of the top scholars in the Patriot League when he was announced as one of six players to be voted to the Academic All-League Team on Thursday. Abaza earns the honor for the first time in his career, and he's the first Bison to earn the award since 2018. It's Abaza's second postseason honor this spring after he was named to the All-Patriot League First Team last week.
Abaza, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., is a double major in economics and Arabic who carries a 3.66 cumulative grade-point average, and he's been an active member in leadership roles around campus and beyond. Abaza serves as the men's tennis representative for Bucknell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as a team captain.
Additionally, the senior has been a driving force in recent community service initiatives that the men's tennis team has participated in. Abaza and the Bison received an award last season for winning the 2020 ITA Community Service Month Challenge, logging 394 service hours in the Lewisburg community and elsewhere. Abaza was also named a 2020 ITA Scholar-Athlete.
On the court, Abaza has played most of his matches in the top position over the past two years and has been named Patriot League Player of the Week three times during that stretch. He helped guide the Bison to the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament this season and collected five doubles wins along with two wins at No. 1 singles.
Navy's Andrew Ton, who was also named the Patriot League Player of the Year, was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year for a second time in his career.
