Women's Swim & Dive First Through PL Challenge Meet's First Day

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's swimming & diving team recorded 13 top-three performances on the first day of its Patriot League Challenge Meet with American and Loyola (Md.).
Through Saturday night, the Bison are first with 518 points. The Greyhounds sit second with 492 points while the Eagles are slotted third with 231 points.
Maddie Hartigan was a standout performer for Bucknell, accounting for two of its four victories. Hartigan came from behind to win the 100 freestyle in a photo finish, breaking the school record with a time of 50.22 in the process. She nearly broke her own school standard (4:46.48) en route to her victory in the 500 freestyle, clocking a time of 4:46.77 to lead a 1-2-3 sweep with Sabrina Vumbacco and Emily Gorham.
Vumbacco teamed with Donati, Lichtner and Isabella Smith for a first-place showing in the 800 freestyle relay. First year Kate Gottwald, who swept the diving events at each of Bucknell's past three meets, continued her winning ways; she took first on the 3-meter board, and her preliminary score of 258.15 slotted her seventh in the Bison annals.
Douek finished one spot behind Gottwald in the 3-meter dive. Maggie Wyngowski went second in both the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM; she also teamed with Esme Hunter, Alexis Faria and Lichtner for a runner-up showing in the 400 medley relay.
Faria placed second in the 200 butterfly while Lichtner took third in the 100 freestyle. Notably, the Bison placed five in the 'A' Finals of the 100 freestyle and the 500 freestyle; they also had four in the 'A' Finals of the 200 butterfly and the 200 IM.
The Bison wrap up their Patriot League Challenge Meet tomorrow at Kinney Natatorium. The preliminaries begin at 10 a.m., with the finals following at 6 p.m. Both sessions will be streamed on ESPN+.
