BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Kelsey Yi, Casey Morrow, Cristina Canales and Tatum McKelvey all posted one round in the 70s, and the Bucknell women's golf team is in fourth place after 36 holes at the Patriot League Championship at Saucon Valley Country Club.
The Bison fashioned team scores of 316 and 324 for a 36-hole total of 640. Navy and Boston University will head into Sunday's final round tied for the lead at 616. Richmond is only five shots back at 621, followed by Bucknell, Lehigh (665) and Holy Cross (701).
Canales, a freshman playing in her first league championship, is the low Bison through 36 holes. After opening with an 81, Canales was 1-under through the first eight holes of her second round before finishing with a 5-over-par 77, which puts her in solo 12 place with a 158 total.
Yi, another Bucknell first-year player, had the team's best round of the day with a morning 76. But she got off to a tough start in round two and followed with a 90.
Bucknell started both rounds on the 10th hole, and the back nine played as the tougher side throughout the day. Morrow started out with a 43 on Saucon Valley's back nine, but then she made three birdies on the way to a 2-under 34 on the front side and a round of 77. Morrow then shot 84 in her afternoon round.
McKelvey's second-round 78 was an 11-stroke improvement over her morning showing. Also for Bucknell, Morgan Hennessy shot 82-87, and Erin Holmes shot 89-85.
Sunday should feature quite a race for the individual champion. Navy's Mara Hirtle has the overnight lead with an 8-over 152 (76-76), but six players are one back at 153. Canales in 12th place is only six shots off the lead.
Sunday's final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m., with NCAA Regional bids on the line for the team and individual champions.
