About the Bison

For the first time in two years, the Bucknell women's golf team is ready to tee off at the Patriot League Championship. After last year's event was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Bison have played a limited spring schedule in preparation for this weekend's championship at Saucon Valley CC, which was the site of the 2009 U.S. Women's open.
Bucknell is looking to carry over the momentum from its most recent competition, which was a victory at the four-team Bucknell Invitational on Apr. 10-11. The Bison entered two five-player squads in that event, and they both topped the other three teams in the field. In fact, the Bucknell "Orange" team, which was officially designated as the B group, beat the "Blue" team by five shots over 36 holes, 615 to 620.
The Bison also claimed the individual champion, as senior Casey Morrow enjoyed a record-setting weekend. Morrow shot 69-74 en route to her first collegiate title, and along the way she tied the 18-hole school record and broke the 36-hole mark with her 143 total.
Morrow leads the Bison with a 76.8 scoring average this spring, and she will go out this weekend as Bucknell's No. 1. Morrow will be grouped with Richmond's Naomi Mitchell and Navy's Christine McDonnell.
The Bison, Spiders and Midshipmen will start the opening round on hole No. 10.
Joining Morrow in the Bucknell lineup will be freshman Cristina Canales, sophomore Tatum McKelvey, junior Morgan Hennessy, senior Erin Holmes, and freshman Kelsey Yi. The Patriot League Championship utilizes a play-six, count-four scoring format.
This year's Patriot League champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals. The individual medalist will also receive an NCAA bid if they are not on the championship team. NCAA Regionals will be held from May 10-12 at four sites around the country. The 2021 NCAA DI Women's Golf Selection Show will air on GOLF Channel on Apr. 28.

The Bison at the Patriot League Championship

The Patriot League began sponsoring women's golf in 2013, and this will be the eighth Patriot League Women's Golf Championship.
Bucknell won the second edition in 2014, posting 930 (313-306-311) at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Lehigh, Bucknell, Boston University and Richmond accounted for four different champions in the first four years of the championship, and then Richmond repeated in both 2017 and 2018. Boston University is the defending champion, having won by four shots over Navy at the 2019 championship at Independence GC in Virginia. Defending individual champion Hanako Kawasaki of Boston University is back in the field this year.
Bucknell finished fifth in 2019, posting a 949 composite with rounds of 323-314-312. Casey Morrow is the only Bison player in this weekend's field who also teed it up last time around two years ago.
Bucknell had produced at least one All-Patriot League performer in each year of league play, but that streak ended in 2019 when the Bison did not have a top-10 finisher for the first time.
Bucknell's best individual finish in a Patriot League Championship was Bridget Wilcox's runner-up placement in the inaugural event in 2013. Other top-five finishes include Lauren Bernard (3rd, 2014), Wilcox (4th, 2014), Kasha Scott (T-5th, 2014), Emily Larson (T-4th, 2016), and Katie Childers (5th, 2018).
The low PLC round by a Bucknell players is a 72 by Childers in the second round of the 2019 championship.
