Paige Furano and Isabelle Monaghan Earn CWPA Weekly Honors

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell University women's water polo team claimed three rewards from the CWPA over the weekend as the Bison finished the regular season with a 2-0 weekend in CWPA games. Junior Paige Furano was named the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, while Isabelle Monaghan earned Rookie of the Week honors.
P. Furano earns her first weekly honor of the season after a tremendous all-around performance in Bucknell's wins over Mount St. Mary's and Saint Francis (Pa.).
In a 20-3 win over The Mount in the first game of the day, P. Furano scored four goals, added four assists, and also managed five steals in a complete performance. The native of Stamford, Conn. also added an exclusion drawn.
In the second game of the day, P. Furano added six assists and eight steals, both season-highs, in a 14-9 win over the Red Flash. She also scored three goals in the victory.
Monaghan registered a season-best five goals in the win over The Mount in game one, and also added three assists and two steals in the victory. In game two, Monaghan accounted for a goal and an assist in the best statistical weekend for the first year from Lawrenceville, N.J.
Bucknell which enters the CWPA Championships on a three-game winning streak, will face Saint Francis (Pa.) once again in the first round of the tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich. The winner of the Bucknell/Saint Francis game will move on to face the winner of host and number-1 seed Michigan and Mount St. Mary's.
