LEWISBURG, Pa. – Four members of the Bucknell field hockey team were voted to All-Patriot League squads following the conclusion of the spring 2021 regular season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Senior defender Kaelyn Long and junior defender Erin Zielinski were both named to the All-League First Team, and senior midfielders Sarah Dimock and Leah Fogelsanger earned Second Team recognition.
Zielinski makes her way onto an All-League team for the first time in her career, while the three seniors each earn postseason honors for a second time in their careers.
Zielinski, a native of Downingtown, Pa., started every game for a second straight season and anchored a Bison defense that limited opponents to one goal per game over the second half of the season. Zielinski played every minute this season, including all 79 of Bucknell's double-overtime win over American.
Joining Zielinski on defense and on the First Team was Long, who rattled off a team-high 12 shots this spring. Long, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2019, finished second on the team in points this year with four. She supplied a team-high two assists this spring and scored a goal in Bucknell's 3-2 win over Lafayette. Long missed the season opener but averaged 58.2 minutes over the final five games.
Dimock returns to the All-League Second Team after making the cut as a sophomore. The Bridgewater, N.J. native was a Preseason All-League choice and started every game while averaging 47.5 minutes. Dimock helped the Bison finish off the game-winning goal against the Eagles and has seven total shots this spring.
Lastly, Fogelsanger was voted to the Second Team after starting all six games and finishing with a goal. Fogelsanger scored with 51 seconds left in the second overtime against American, giving the Bison their first victory of the season in dramatic fashion. The Bloomsburg, Pa. native averaged 40 minutes per game in 2021 and now has 27 points in her career.
American took home three of the Patriot League major awards, including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Lehigh sophomore Maddie Kahn earned Goalkeeper of the Year, and Boston's Sally Starr was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Terriers to an undefeated record.
Bucknell faces American in the semifinal round of the Patriot League Championship on Thursday, April 22 in Boston, Mass.
