LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis played its last Patriot League match of the regular season on Sunday, falling 7-0 to the visiting Navy Midshipmen. Bucknell (3-4, 2-3 PL) put up a strong fight in a pair of doubles matches and went three sets in No. 1 singes, but Navy (5-2, 3-1 PL) ultimately took the victory.
Bucknell fought hard for the doubles point, battling to the tiebreaker in both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Cayla Koch and Daniela Bellini fell 7-6 (5) to Navy's Miranda Deng and Jillian Taggart in the top spot, and Rachel Carroll and Chloe Zilkha suffered a narrow 7-6 (6) defeat at No. 3. It was Zilkha's first appearance this spring.
The doubles effort was followed up by a close match at No. 1 singles by Bellini. The junior claimed the first set, 6-4, over Navy sophomore Jillian Taggart. Taggart went on to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-2.
Koch's unbeaten singles streak came to an end with a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Navy junior Kacey Moore. Koch is now 6-1 in the No. 2 position during her senior campaign.
Bucknell is scheduled to play two more non-conference matches against IUP and St. Bonaventure next weekend. The Bison will host IUP at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Friday, April 23. Bucknell then travels to New York to take on the Bonnies on Saturday, April 24.
