CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Sophomore Chris DiFiore has been named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
DiFiore, who has put together an impressive stretch for the Bison, continued that run of form with another solid outing for the Bison in Monday's 8-2 win over Lehigh.
The Bison have now earned at least one of the three awards presented weekly by the Patriot League. Chris Cannizzaro and Grant Voytovich have each earned Player of the Week honors, while Anthony Sherwin and Jacob Corson picked up Rookie of the Week accolades earlier this season.
The native of Mount Kisco, N.Y. threw 115 pitches on Monday afternoon, going seven innings while scattering seven hits and striking out a career best eight batters.
After making three appearances as a reliever as a first year, DiFiore has now earned wins in three of his last four appearances for the Bison, allowing two runs or less in each of those outings. Difiore has pitched at least six innings in four straight games, while also managing at least six strikeouts in three of those four appearances. DiFiore ranked fourth in the Patriot League in ERA (2.45) entering Monday's game, and is 3-2 this season.
DiFiore leads the team in strikeouts with 29 this season, and his 2.08 ERA in conference games this season ranks fourth in the Patriot League. The three wins for Difiore in conference games this season rank the sophomore in a tie for first with preseason Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Mason Black of Lehigh.
DiFiore and the rest of the Bison squad will travel to Annapolis, Md. on Saturday for a doubleheader before hosting the Mids on Sunday for a single game at Depew Field at 2 p.m.
