LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Casey Morrow tied the 18-hole team scoring record and broke the 36-hole mark on the way to a victory at the Bucknell Invitational over the weekend, and for her efforts she has been recognized as the Bison Athlete of the Week, presented by Mid-Penn Energy and Mid-Penn Engineering.
Morrow posted a 1-under-par 69 in the first round of the tournament on Saturday and followed it up with a 74 on a rainy Sunday at the Bucknell Golf Club. Her 143 total was good for a six-stroke individual victory over teammate Tatum McKelvey, and it led the Bison to the team title as well.
Morrow's first career tournament win came in record-setting fashion. Her opening 69 tied Bridget Wilcox's 18-hole school record, set at the Nittany Lion Invitational in the fall of 2010. Morrow's 1-under total was tied for fifth-best in relation to par, and it was the seventh sub-par round in tournament play in team history.
Morrow also set the Bucknell 36-hole scoring record, becoming the first player in team history to go as low as 143. The previous mark was 144, set by Minjoo Lee at the 2010 Big South Championship. Lee was even-par through 36 holes at the par-72 Patriot at Grand Harbor course. Morrow's +3 is second-lowest in relation to par, tied with Wilcox's 3-over 147 at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational in March 2012.
Playing in her final home tournament, Morrow became the sixth Bison to win medalist honors at the Bucknell Invitational. Lindsay Dodovich was the most recent in 2016, and she was preceded by Katie Jurenovich (2010), Teri Schlang (2006), Jess Hetrich (2002) and Hilary Mainka (1999). This was Bucknell's fifth team victory at its annual home event, with the others coming in 2006, 2010, 2011 and 2016.
After this weekend's strong play, Morrow's season scoring average is down to a team-best 76.8. Next up for the Bison is the 2021 Patriot League Championship, which will be hosted by Lehigh at Saucon Valley Country Club on Apr. 24-25.
