LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey rookie Rachel Apa earned two Patriot League weekly awards after notching two goals in Sunday's 3-2 victory over Lafayette. Apa was named the Rookie of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Apa, a native of Lewisberry, Pa., made the most of her 28 minutes on Sunday by putting away both the game-tying and game-winning goals against the Leopards. Apa's first career goal came just over six minutes into the third quarter when she redirected a pass from Emily Doyle past the Lafayette goalkeeper to tie the game at 2-2.
Just over a minute later, Apa gave the Bison the lead when she caught a piece of Kaelyn Long's shot to convert a penalty corner that put Bucknell up 3-2.
Apa is one of three Bison rookies to register a goal this season and now leads the team with five points this spring. The rookie supplied an assist on the game-winning goal at Colgate last weekend. She becomes the first Patriot League player with a multi-goal game this season.
Long received an honorable mention for Defensive Player of the Week after posting a goal and an assist, and Clara McCormick was an honorable mention for Goalkeeper of the Week after recording seven saves, including one on a Lafayette penalty stroke with 3.6 seconds to go in the game.
