Men's Water Polo Set to Host MAWPC Championship Game Sunday Afternoon

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell University men's water polo team is set to host the MAWPC Championship game on Sunday afternoon when it faces the winner of La Salle and George Washington at 3:30 p.m. Bucknell, now 3-1 on the season, earned the No. 1 seed of the tournament after a change in schedule and venue for the 2021 MAWPC Championship. Â

The winner of Sunday's game will move on to the NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship held at the campus of the University of Southern California on March 18, 20-21.

- Bucknell will return to the pool after a successful 2-0 weekend with wins over both La Salle and George Washington in Annapolis. Both games were decided by two goals or less. Â
- Matt Blackwell provided a big game for the Bison in the win over the Explorers in scoring three goals, a career best. Blackwell also scored in Bucknell's overtime win over Navy earlier this season, and scored the eventual game-winning goal against George Washington in Bucknell's 8-7 win last weekend. Â
- Sophomore goalkeeper Adrien Touzot has once again been solid for the Bison this season, the native of Beirut, Lebanon has accumulated at least eight saves in three of Bucknell's four games this season.  Â
- Bucknell and George Washington battled to a 1-1 record in two games at Kinney Natatorium in 2019. The Colonials took an 11-10 win over the Bison in the regular season finale for the Bison at home, but Bucknell managed to come out on top two weeks later in the MAWPC Championship game. Â
- Bucknell also met La Salle in last year's MAWPC Tournament at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison held off a game Explorer team in a 13-10 victory, shutting out La Salle in the fourth quarter. Â
- Bucknell has managed to win all three of its games this season by two goals or less, and has now won five straight games decided by two goals or less, with the last defeat to the Colonials last November. Â
- Andu Vlasceanu managed his second three-goal game of the season in the win over George Washington, and also added two goals in the win over La Salle, bringing his season total to eight. Â
- Jack Lewis contributed three big goals, including two of the final three, in helping Bucknell defeat the Colonials last weekend. Â
- The MAWPC Championship appearance is Bucknell's third-straight appearance in the Championship game, and its fourth in the past five seasons under Head Coach John McBride. Â
