CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --Â Senior defender Trevor Wiggins has been named the Patriot League Defender of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.Â
Wiggins, who played the full game the last 12 matches of 2019, made his season debut on Saturday afternoon against the Eagles. A co-captain along with Matt Thorsheim, Wiggins scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute in Saturday's game. Wiggins met a header off a long throw-in from fellow center back Colin Eifert that trickled into the goal before helping keep the Eagles off the board for the remaining 35 minutes of the game.Â
Wiggins' arrival at center back alongside Quinn Bredin after missing the first portion of 2019 helped bolster the Bucknell back line, contributing to four clean sheets over the final seven games of the season. The defensive effort helped Bucknell return to the Patriot League Tournament after missing out in 2018, and the native of Annapolis, Maryland added another goal off of a corner kick in Bucknell's 3-0 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) on September 18.Â
Bucknell, now 1-1 on the season, will travel to defending Patriot League Champion Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in a rematch of last season's Patriot League semifinal.  Â
