LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Ashlyn Ramos will make her first NCAA Cross Country Championship appearance, and the first for a Patriot League runner since Christine Bendzinski in 2017, on Monday afternoon in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Ramos qualified for the Championships by way of winning the individual title at the 2021 Patriot League Spring Cross Country Championships. The meet is scheduled for a 12:50 p.m. start (ET) and will be televised on ESPNU.
"We are very excited that Ashlyn will be representing Bucknell University at the NCAA Cross Country Championships," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "Although she has only raced once since March 2020, she has worked extremely hard over the past year, and taken her running to a very high level. I saw it this past fall when we had some time trials and an intrasquad meet. She finally got the chance to put the uniform on and compete against other athletes last week at the Patriot League Championships, where she earned her ticket to NCAA. I really believe that had it been a normal season with a regional meet, she would have made it as well. She is just at a new level."
Ramos is the 13th Bucknell runner to compete at the National meet. Bucknell qualified as a team in 1999, with individual runners also qualifying in 1997, 2001, 2006, and 2016. Theresa Dennis, a 2020 Bucknell Hall of Fame inductee, recorded Bucknell's highest-ever finish at the NCAA Championships when she finished 73rd overall in 2001. The top 40 finishers will earn All-America honors.
