BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell volleyball team completed the second half of a weekend home-and-home series against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Sunday, falling 3-0 (17-25 19-25, 14-25) in the team's fourth match of the season. It was Bucknell's first three-set loss of the season and drops the Bison to 1-3 through the first two weekends of competition.
Sophomore Lisa Zoch led the Bison with nine kills and a .300 hitting percentage while also posting a service ace and four digs. Senior Delanie Lewis was right behind her with eight kills and four digs. Sophomore Kelsey O'Loughlin supplied 19 assists, and sophomore Zoe Stupek led the team with six digs.
Lehigh (2-4) had three players with double-digit kills, including a team-high 16 from Lylah Washington. The Mountain Hawks recorded a .438 hitting percentage.
The Bison played Lehigh close through much of the first set, but after tying things up at 8-8 the Bison would trail the rest of the way. With a 20-16 edge, the Mountain Hawks used a 5-1 run to put an end to the first set and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Bucknell got off to a slow start in the second set and fell behind 15-6 before rallying. The Bison scored 11 of the next 13 points to get within two of tying at 19-17, but another 5-1 run by Lehigh made it set-point. Bucknell scored two more points on kills from Zoch and Lewis before Lehigh won the set 25-19 and took a 2-0 match lead.
Another tough start to the third set put Bucknell in a 5-0 hole from the beginning. The Bison were unable to string together more than a couple points in a row as the Mountain Hawks held on to win the final set 25-14.
Bucknell is slated to face Lehigh twice more next weekend, beginning with a Friday matchup in Bethlehem, Pa. Bucknell then returns to host the Mountain Hawks at Davis Gym on Sunday, March 21.
