LEWISBURG, Pa. – After becoming the first goalkeeper in Patriot League history to record three shutouts in the Patriot League Women's Soccer Tournament, the last coming in Bucknell's 1-0 over Boston University in Sunday's championship game, sophomore Jenna Hall has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week.
A Third Team All-Patriot League selection and a member of the Patriot League All-Tournament Team, Hall has backstopped a Bison defense that will bring a four-game shutout streak into the NCAA Tournament. Since falling 2-1 on a late goal at Army on Oct. 22, the Bison have not conceded a goal since then, with the scoreless streak now at 367:33.
Hall has been a big reason why. She made a career-high 12 saves in a 1-0 overtime win at Lehigh in the first game of the streak, which was also the final game of the regular season. That win preserved the No. 4 seed for Bucknell, and the defensive resurgence carried over into the postseason.
Hall stopped seven shots in a 2-0 home victory over fifth-seeded Lehigh in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals. She was credited with one save in a 1-0 win at second-seeded Navy in the semis, and then Hall tallied four saves in Sunday's championship game win at top-seeded Boston University.
After the Bison scored on a corner kick in the 75th minute, Hall helped see out the victory with two late saves. Twice she came off her line to pick off crosses, including one where she absorbed contact from an onrushing Terriers forward.
Hall now has a Patriot League-high eight shutouts on the season, which is tied for third-most in Bucknell history.
Bucknell will take an 11-7-3 record into the NCAA Tournament. The Bison find out their first-round opponent and destination at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
