Men’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Jason Aoyama finished off a counter-attack in the 54th minute to lift Navy to a 1-0 victory over Bucknell in Patriot League men's soccer action Sunday at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
The Bison received a strong performance from freshman goalkeeper Logan Kinajil-Moran in his first collegiate start. Kinajil-Moran made three saves, including two highlight-reel stops late in the match.
Navy finished with a 12-8 shot advantage, but only one got past Kinajil-Moran. In a scoreless game early in the second half, Aoyama and Jacob Williams worked a give-and-go in transition, with Aoyama finishing behind the defense for his second goal of the season.
The Midshipmen had a couple of good chances for a second goal, but Bucknell's rookie netminder was up to the challenge. Kinajil-Moran made a diving stop on Christian Coelho in the 77th minute, and soon after he charged out to deny Sidney Paris on a breakaway.
Eddie Perez-Pelaez had two of Bucknell's better scoring opportunities. Late in the first half, Alex Clarke worked through the left side of Navy's defense to get a cross in, but it took a slight deflection and Perez-Pelaez sent it over the bar on the half-volley.
Navy played a ball out to touch as the final seconds of the match ticked away. Colin Eifert sprinted forward to get a long throw into the box, and it was cleared only as far as Perez-Pelaez at the top of the 18. Perez-Pelaez let it fly with about a second to play, and his shot was deflected wide by David Jackson as time expired.
Navy improved to 11-4-1 on the season and 5-3 in the Patriot League, and the Midshipmen clinched a Patriot League Tournament berth with the win. The Bison fell to 4-9-3 overall and 2-4-2 in league play, and they will close out their 2021 campaign at home against Loyola on Wednesday evening.
