Bucknell at a Glance
- We're down to three games remaining in the regular season, and the Bison have some ground to make up in order to move into postseason position.
- Bucknell and Boston University come into Saturday's game tied for seventh place with seven points, both on matching 2-3-1 Patriot League records. Sixth-place Army is just ahead with nine points, with American and Lafayette also within reach on 10 points apiece.
- The Bison will be looking to bounce back from a 4-1 loss at first-place Holy Cross last Saturday. Jameson Railey's first goal of the season knotted that game at 1-1 early in the second half, but the Crusaders tacked on three goals in the final 25 minutes to win it.
- Sophomore striker Jordan Miller is tied for second in the Patriot League with six goals, one behind Holy Cross' Evan Jones. Miller's account includes an overtime game-winner at Lehigh on Sept. 29.
- Six other Bison have one goal apiece: Patrick O'Hara, Eddie Perez-Pelaez, Gabe Dahlin, Alex Clarke, Sebastian Paz and Railey.
- O'Hara has a team-high three assists and is second to Miller with five points.
- Clarke's penalty kick in a 1-0 win at Colgate came on Bucknell's first attempt from the spot this season. Clarke earned Patriot League Midfielder of the after converting a pressure PK in the 79th minute.
- The Bison have been road warriors this season, with 10 of the team's 14 games coming away from home.
- Bucknell has one of its youngest squads in recent memory. The 28-man roster is comprised of four seniors, six juniors, eight sophomores and 10 freshmen. The eight sophomores could really be classified as rookies, as they also went through a full August preseason training camp for the first time.
- Bucknell has three captains for the 2021 season: seniors Alex Clarke and Patrick O'Hara, and sophomore MJ Kuczura. Kuczura is the first sophomore captain in team history.Â
- The Bison will be honoring five seniors prior to Saturday's game with Boston University: Clarke, O'Hara, Colin Eifert, Aiden Perry and Jacob Mittman. Mittman played three seasons with the Bison before suffering a season-ending injury in preseason, and he will be recognized with his classmates.
- The Terriers find themselves in the same postseason positioning as Bucknell, with a 2-3-1 Patriot League record heading into the closing stretch.
- Boston University has league wins over Navy (1-0) and Colgate (2-0), both at home. The Terriers are 3-3-0 overall at home this season but 0-5-2 on the road.
- Boston University has played well of late, coming off back-to-back wins over Northeastern and Colgate. Including a 1-1 draw at American, the Terriers are unbeaten in their last three matches.
- Ronaldo Marshall scored twice in Tuesday's 3-1 win over a Northeastern side that came in with a 9-3-2 record. The Huskies scored first, but the Terriers rallied with three second-half goals.
- Eitan Rosen had a brace in the 2-0 win over Colgate last Saturday.
- Marshall leads the team with four goals and 10 points, while Rosen, Brian Hernandez and Quinn Matulis have two goals each.
- If the series history is any indication, this game will likely be headed to overtime. The Bison and Terriers first met when Boston University joined the Patriot League in 2013, and incredibly, the first eight series meetings required extra time. In that stretch, Bucknell won twice in overtime, Boston University won once, and there were five draws. One of those ties came in the 2016 Patriot League Tournament, and the Bison advanced on penalty kicks.
- The overtime streak ended in 2019, when Bucknell won 3-0 at Emmitt Field. Patrick O'Hara scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute, and Kevin Gulizio and Nick King tacked on goals in the final 15 minutes.
- O'Hara also had an assist in that game, as did Eddie Perez-Pelaez and Zach Hurchalla.
- Bucknell is 1-0-3 at home against the Terriers.
- Bucknell's most memorable series win was a dramatic 3-2 overtime verdict in the 2014 Patriot League championship game in Boston. Lincoln, Massachusetts native Sebastiaan Blickman scored twice for the Bison, including the golden goal off an assist from Jack Zollicoffer.
- Bucknell has a tough finish to the regular season, with games against the two teams currently tied for second place in the Patriot League standings.
- The Bison travel to Navy next Saurday, and then wrap up the regular season at home against Loyola on Nov. 3.
