WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team cruised past Holy Cross, 178-111, in its season opener on Friday at the Hart Center.
The Bison (1-0, 1-0 PL) improved to 6-0 all-time against Holy Cross (0-2, 0-1 PL) behind 11 individual victories and one relay win.
Junior Leo Kuyl (50 freestyle) and sophomore John Gehrig (100 butterfly) each broke a Hart Center Pool record; the 50 freestyle standard had stood since 1990 while the 100 butterfly mark was set in 2006. In addition, Kuyl teamed with sophomore Chris Fabian, junior Ryaan Hatoum and senior Liam Pitt to break the pool record in the 200 medley relay, which was set in 1990.
Earlier in the day, Fabian set a new Hart Center Pool record in the 50 freestyle, which was then broken by Kuyl during his lead-off leg of the 200 freestyle relay.
Â
Senior Will Cadwallader swept the boards while nine different Bison touched the wall first in swimming races. Fabian, senior Sam Sweeney and freshmen Chris Kopac and Justin DiSanto each won his first collegiate event at Holy Cross.
Bucknell enjoyed 1-2-3 performances in four events: the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay. With the meet well in hand, the Bison swam the 100 butterfly, 200 IM and 200 freestyle relay as exhibitions.
