LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's basketball team has announced that all four seniors–Tessa Brugler, Autumn Ceppi, Ally Johnson, and Abby Kapp–will serve as team captains for the 2020-21 season.
"We are fortunate to have such a strong group of tough, smart and team-first seniors. Their maturity and leadership through these challenging times has been very impressive," said head coach Trevor Woodruff. "They are focused on winning a third-straight Patriot League Championship and embracing the work required to do so."
The Bison are fresh off of back-to-back regular season titles, and the current senior group has experienced trips to both the NCAA Tournament and the WNIT. Since arriving at Bucknell, the class sports a 74-22 overall record and a 47-7 mark in the Patriot League
Brugler earns the leadership role for a second consecutive year following a breakout junior season. The Nazareth, Pa. native finished third on the roster in scoring (9.8 ppg), second in rebounding (5.9 rpg), and was selected to the All-Patriot League Third Team. Brugler put up 13 double-digit scoring efforts and led the team in rebounding 11 times last season.
Ceppi also produced a strong 2019-20 season, setting career highs in scoring, rebounding, assists and blocks. Averaging 18 minutes per game, Ceppi put together a string of standout performances over the final eight games of the season including a 20-point effort at American and a 13-rebound game against Boston U.
Johnson showed versatility as a junior by filling in at multiple positions and displaying her ability to run the offense while remaining a scoring threat from beyond the arc. She finished fifth in the league in 3-pointers and was second on the Bison roster in assists. Johnson scored in double figures 10 times last year and currently has the third-most starts on the team at 24.
Kapp tops the group in experience with 68 career starts including each of the least 39. At 10.9 points per game she was Bucknell's second-leading scorer as a junior and led the league with 78 made threes. She scored in double figures 19 times and eclipse 15 points five times. Kapp made her presence felt on the defensive end as well, leading the team in blocks (23) and finishing second in steals (30). Kapp was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team in 2020 and was an All-Rookie Team selection in 2018.
