LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Tyler Wincig has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for the second straight year, the organization announced on Thursday afternoon.
Wincig becomes the third repeat selection for the Bison in the past five years, joining Joe Ogren (2015 and 2016) and 2019 First Team Academic All-American selection Jeff Gottesman (2018 and 2019).
A two-year captain for the Bison along with JohnPaul Bell, Wincig carried a 3.91 cumulative GPA through the voting process while majoring in accounting and financial management. Wincig was heavily involved on campus, serving as a peer writing consultant, a member of the Bucknell Leadership Academy, and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Wincig has earned a spot on the Bucknell Dean's List in every semester, and was named the 2019 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, in addition to earning a spot on the Academic All-League Team twice. Earlier this week, Wincig earned the John F. Zeller Award from the Bucknell Athletic Department for outstanding contributions to Bucknell Athletics.
The New York, N.Y. native has played seven different positions for the Orange and Blue during his decorated career on the field, and earned First Team All-Patriot League honors in 2019 after hitting .348 with a .500 on-base percentage. Wincig's on-base percentage ranked 20th in NCAA Divison I, and is the third-highest mark in a single season in Bucknell history. Wincig is one of only eight Bucknell players since 2011 to hit two home runs in a game, and he led the Patriot League with a .643 slugging percentage in 2019.
In 2020, Wincig was beginning to find his groove at the plate, recording a hit in five of Bucknell's last six games. His 14 runs scored ranked second in the Patriot League, and his 12 walks were the third-most in the league.
The senior will depart Bucknell with a .424 on-base percentage, which ranks tenth in the Bucknell history books. Wincig's 90 career walks also rank third in the Bucknell annals.
Wincig will now move on to the Academic All-American Ballot announced in early June.
