Men's Swim & Dive Welcomes Six Newcomers

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Head coach Dan Schinnerer announced the Bucknell men's swimming & diving team's six-man incoming freshman class on Tuesday.

"With only two seniors on last year's squad, we knew we didn't need a large class this year," Schinnerer said. "We needed an impactful class. This group has the potential to be highly impactful right away."

The incoming freshmen hail from six different states: Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina and Ohio. They are projected to compete in a variety of disciplines, with freestyle, butterfly and IM being the most represented.

In 2019-20, the Bison placed fourth at the Patriot League Championships after putting together a 5-6 (4-4 PL) dual meet record. Following that campaign, they lost two-time All-Patriot League honoree Matt McGoey to graduation.

Noah Basista
Breaststroke/Butterfly/IM, Boardman, Ohio, Boardman

Before Bucknell: Swam for Boardman High School, helping team win four-straight NEAC and AAC conference titles … three-time NISCA All-American … 2020 NISCA Academic All-American … four-time All-Ohio Division I Team … 2019 AAC Swimmer of the Year … 2020 and 2019 NEAC Swimmer of the Year … 2019 Youngstown Vindicator Swimmer of the Year … four-time All-AAC First Team … four-time All-NEAC First Team … helped the Spartans compile a 47-4 record over course of career, including a perfect 25-0 mark over junior and senior seasons … graduated with individual school records in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM … swam on school record setting 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams … served as team captain as a senior … also swam for the Youngstown YMCA Neptune Swim Team, setting multiple team records and qualifying for the YMCA National Championship.

Personal: Noah Thomas Basista … born April 17, 2001 in Youngstown, Ohio … son of Thomas and Jenefer Basista … has a younger sister: Julia … father played football at Allegheny College … served as senior class president and graduated first in the class of 2020 at Boardman High School … volunteers as a coach for local swim club.

Before Bucknell: Swam for John Jay High School … three-time all-league selection … member of three relay teams that qualified for the 2019 state championship meet … served as team captain as a junior and senior … posted personal best times of 1:53.25 in the 200 IM and 4:00.80 in the 400 IM … also swam for the Empire Swimming club team, captaining squad as a senior … competed on Empire's national team … qualified for the USA Swimming Futures Meet in the 100 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 IM.

Before Bucknell: Swam for Ridge High School … two-time county champion in the 200 freestyle … graduated with individual school records in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly … swam on school record setting 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams … also swam for the Berkeley Aquatic Club, setting mixed 200 freestyle LCM and SCY state records.

Before Bucknell: Swam for Damascus High School … 2019 Maryland state champion in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle … outraced the 500 freestyle field by 11 seconds, timing in at 4:37.98 … helped the Swarmin' Hornets place second at the 2019 Maryland 1A/2A/3A State Championships … graduated with school records in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle … served as team captain as a senior … named team MVP as a junior and senior … also swam for Rockville Montgomery Swim Club.
