LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The 2016 Patriot League women's soccer championship game against Boston University was one of the most thrilling events on the Bucknell campus in recent memory. Sudden-death overtime to determine the league champion? Yes, please.Â
One year earlier in Boston, Terriers had beaten the Bison in the league final, 1-0 on a goal in the 86th minute. In 2016, the rematch took place at Emmitt Field, and it was as evenly matched as it sounds. Both teams took 13 shots in the game, and Bucknell's Maddie Mulford and Boston's Ann Marie Jaworski traded goals just 30 seconds apart early in the second half. In overtime, it was Bison senior Cora Climo who found the golden goal when she bodied in a wonderful service from Jackie Ham on the left flank. The victory upped Bucknell's record to 16-1-2 on the season, and it would be their first of two straight league titles.
This Thursday at 7 p.m., the entire 2016 championship match will be shown as part of the "PLN Classics" series on the Patriot League Network YouTube channel. In addition, Bison head coach Kelly Cook will be commenting from the @Bucknell_WSOC Twitter account, with her perspectives on what happened during the contest. Fans are invited to watch along, make comments and ask questions. Alumnae from that team and other years will also be convening via Zoom chat to relive the memories.
