IRVINE, Calif. – Bucknell men's tennis fell 6-1 at UC Irvine in the opening match of the team's spring break tour in California. Sophomore Cooper Bradshaw won in singles to get the Bison a point, but the Anteaters collected their fifth win on the season and second in a row with a strong showing on Sunday.
Bradshaw won his fifth singles match of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over sophomore Mike Mkrtchian in number three singles.
Junior Marwan Abaza put together a strong effort in number one singles for Bucknell, where he's now 10-4 on the season. Abaza won the second set against the Anteaters' Mateusz Smolicki, but wound up falling 7-5, 3-6, 10-7.
The Bison have thrived in doubles this spring but lost the point after the two and three teams fell 6-2 and 6-1, respectively. Bucknell's top tandem, Michael Owen and Bradshaw, were trailing 3-5 before the match went unfinished.
Bucknell will have Monday off before returning to play on Tuesday, March 10 for a noon (ET) match against UC San Diego.
