No. 22 Women's Water Polo Readies for Four Games at Harvard Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The No. 22 Bucknell University women's water polo team is set for four more games this weekend at the Harvard Invitational.

About the Bison
- Bucknell went 2-2 over the weekend, snapping a six-game winning streak in a high-scoring,17-14 loss to No. 15 Long Beach State on Sunday. Bucknell then dropped a 15-6 decision to No. 7 Michigan on Sunday for back-to-back losses for the first time since dropping games to No. 6 Michigan and No. 15 Princeton on April 13-14 last season. Bucknell's three losses in 2020 have come to opponents ranked in the top 20 or higher in the national poll.
- Ally Furano scored 15 goals over the weekend, including a six-goal effort in Bucknell's 10-5 win over CWPA rival Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday. The junior now sits just three goals shy of breaking the career goals record held by Meagan Gins (237). A. Furano has contributed four or more goals in ten of Bucknell's 15 games so far this season, and owns the single-season record for goals (123) and points (178).
- Nina Benson, who is 7-for-7 on sprints so far this season, improved to 53-for-58 in her career over the weekend. Benson's 53 sprints won rank in a tie for tenth in the Bucknell record books with Ashley Aiken. Benson also added four goals against Long Beach State on Sunday, and played her 100th career game for the Bison against SFU.
- Gigi Rojahn picked up her first four starts of the season over the weekend, and responded with seven assists in four games while also tallying a goal against Michigan. Rojahn's four assists against Long Beach State are a career-best.
- Hayley Pogue also made her first four starts of the year in the cage, recording 25 saves through four games. Pogue's start against Michigan was the 14th of her career. The native of San Diego will return to her hometown on March 13-14 at the Aztec Invite for four games.
- Kali Hyham made it six straight games with five goals or more after opening the Wolverine Invite with five against Iona. The native of Garden Grove, Calif. has now scored 50 times for the Bison this season, second on the team behind A. Furano (65).
- The matches over the weekend will be a return to Massachusetts for freshmen Abbie Coscia and Sam Gove, who hail from Holyoke and Rockport, respectively.
- The Pioneers are 5-6 this season, taking three of games at the Tina Finali Invitational, including a win over No. 25 California Baptist.
- Bucknell is 2-0 all-time against the Pioneers, including a 12-9 win in overtime last season in Los Angeles at the LMU Invite on Saturday, March 16.
- Georgia Lewis saved a late penalty shot by the Pioneers, and used a goal from Sarah Mooney on an assist from Hyham with two seconds remaining as Bucknell took an overtime victory with three unanswered goals in the extra period.
- Bucknell will take on Siena for the second time this season after a 16-10 win over the Saints on Feb. 2 at the Bruno Classic. A. Furano scored six times in the win, with Bella Moynihan also adding two goals. P. Furano added four assists, while Megan Lacroix dished out two helpers.
- Bucknell is 13-0 all-time against the Saints.
- The Sharks are in their inaugural season as an associate member of the MAAC, and are 4-13 this season.
- The two teams will meet for the first time in their history.
- The Seahawks are 11-5 this season, including a 17-8 win over the Bison on Feb. 9 at Kinney Natatorium. The loss snapped a 6-0 start for the Bison, and was the first of three meetings between the two teams this season. Bucknell is also scheduled to play the Seahawks on March 14 as a part of the Aztec Invite.
- Hyham scored three goals by the Bison in the defeat, while A. Furano added two tallies. P. Furano dished out three assists.
- Bucknell will take on Long Beach State on March 12 on the road before traveling to San Diego for the Aztec Invite for four games on the campus of San Diego State.
