Women's Swim & Dive Rises to Second at ECAC Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell women's swimming & diving team rose to second at the ECAC Championships on Saturday night at Navy's Lejeune Hall.
Bolstered by Alexis Faria's gold-medal showing in the 100 butterfly, the Bison vaulted two spots in the team standings. With 302 points, they are second to Navy (420.5) and six points clear of third-place Penn (296).
Faria, who won her gold medal behind Bucknell's third-fastest time (55.02), was one of five Bison to score in the 100 butterfly. Maddie Hartigan finished right behind her, earning silver behind Bucknell's second-fastest time (55.42). Sabrina Vumbacco (7th), Emily Gorham (14th) and Rachel Hazard (16th) also scored for the Bison.
Vumbacco, the 2019 Rookie of the Patriot League Championships, won an ECAC silver in the 200 freestyle; her time of 1:50.33 slotted her sixth in the Bison annals. In addition, her time of 56.08 in the 100 butterfly was good for eighth in school history.
Emma Hadley, Jacqueline Rounsavill, Hazard and Sophia Donati added a bronze medal in the 200 medley relay. Alaina Schumann (3-meter dive) and the 800 freestyle relay team of Faria, Isabella Smith, Hartigan and Lindsey Bloom missed making the podium by a single spot.
The Bison conclude their time at the ECAC League Championships tomorrow. The preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. with the finals following at 4 p.m.
