LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Marwan Abaza has been named the Patriot League Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Abaza went 3-1 in singles play and won two doubles matches in a busy weekend for the men's tennis team.
Abaza, who has played in the number one singles spot for the Bison throughout the spring season, earned wins over La Salle, Connecticut, and Marist. His win over Huskies junior John Michael Holtmann was a gutsy three-set victory that went down to the tiebreak. Abaza's only singles loss of the weekend came against Penn State on Sunday evening.
Abaza also won both of his doubles matches against La Salle and Connecticut. Playing with sophomore Ryan Jurist, Abaza went 2-2 for the weekend in the number two doubles spot.
The Boca Raton, Fla. native is now 9-2 in singles play this spring, and the Penn State loss was his first since Feb. 8. Abaza is also 7-5 in doubles this spring.
Bucknell continues play this weekend when it hosts Saint Joseph's at the Central PA Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 4 p.m. The team then heads to California where it has five matches on the schedule over spring break.
