SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis collected its second consecutive victory and third on the season with a 4-0 win over La Salle at the Central PA Tennis Center Friday evening. The Bison swept three singles matches and won two of three doubles matches in the victory. With the loss, the Explorers dropped to 2-3 on the spring season.
Marwan Abaza improved to 7-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win in number one singles. Abaza's win over junior Rogelio Gonzalez was his second in a row, and the Boca Raton, Fla. native has now won three of the last four.
Freshman Michael Owen, who hasn't lost a singles match since the spring opener against Fordham, improved to 7-1 as well with a 6-1, 6-4 win over La Salle sophomore Nassim Fenjiro. Sophomore Cooper Bradshaw evened his spring record at 4-4 with a decisive 6-0, 6-3 victory in number three singles.
"Credit to La Salle for coming out with energy," said head coach Bruce Myers. "We rebounded well in singles, and full credit to Marwan, Cooper, and Michael for dictating and controlling their matches."
Bucknell did suffer a 7-5 loss in number three singles, but the top two tandems did their part. Bradshaw and Owen moved to 5-1 this spring with a 6-4 win in the number one spot, and Ryan Jurist and Abaza won 6-4 playing in number two doubles.
Bucknell still has three opponents to face throughout the remainder of the weekend, including a 6 p.m. match with Connecticut on Saturday.
