LEWISBURG, Pa. – Head coach Frank Fedorjaka announced Thursday that seniors Grayson Burns, Matt Fedorjaka, Conor Shears and Will Yorke will serve as the Bucknell men's lacrosse team's captains in 2020.
"We have two offensive guys and two defensive guys, which is always a plus," Fedorjaka said. "Each has his own leadership style, and each will play a significant role on our team this year. I'm excited by what each brings to the table, and I know they'll set a great example for our guys in everything that they do."
Burns has spent the past three seasons as a reserve offensive midfielder. He played in nine games each of the past two campaigns, netting six goals on 12 shots. Entering his senior year, he earned a spot on the Bison's top midfield line.
Fedorjaka, a short-stick defensive midfielder, has appeared in all 30 games during his time in Lewisburg. A transfer from Fairfield University, he has been a key piece of Bucknell's defense and clearing unit since joining the team in 2018. The former Lewisburg High School attacker has also chipped in offensively, registering 11 points on one goal and 10 assists.
Shears enjoyed a breakout junior year, making the All-Patriot League Second Team after leading the Bison in caused turnovers (25) and finishing third among defenders in ground balls (26). In 26 career games, 15 of which were starts, he has totaled 32 ground balls, 29 caused turnovers and three points (1g-2a).
Like Shears, Yorke burst onto the scene as a junior. In his first season as a starting attacker, he led the Bison in goals (34) and points (45) and finished tied for third in assists (11). He also took 118 shots, the fourth-highest total in school history. For his efforts, he joined Shears on the All-Patriot League Second Team.
The Bison begin their 2020 campaign with a game against Furman in Durham, N.C. on Saturday, Feb. 1. Their first home game will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15 against Sacred Heart. The following week after their home opener, they will host Ohio State for the first time since 2010. Their complete schedule can be viewed here.
Bucknell went 6-9 (4-4 Patriot League) in 2019, closing the regular-season on a four-game winning streak to clinch its 13th Patriot League Tournament berth in the past 15 seasons. The Bison graduated 12 seniors following that campaign, including four-year starting goalie Christian Klipstein and four-year primary faceoff specialist Jarett Witzal. In addition, they will need to replace their top midfield line of Ryan Durkin, Reed Malas and Tom Smith.
