Bucknell Picked Fifth in Preseason Poll
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior Tyler Wincig has been tabbed as a Preseason All-Patriot League selection for the second consecutive year, the league office announced on Tuesday morning. Wincig was Bucknell's lone representative on the squad, and was one of four outfielders selected. The Bison as a team were picked fifth in the preseason poll.
The native of New York, N.Y. enjoyed a breakout junior season in which he earned All-Patriot League First Team honors for the first time in his career. Wincig hit .348 in 38 games, second in the Patriot League. He led the league in slugging percentage (.643), and finished second in on-base percentage (.500). Wincig's on-base percentage was the third-best in Bucknell history, and also ranked 20th in Division I.
The 2019 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year demonstrated power at the plate as well, where he was one of only four players in the Patriot League to launch eight or more home runs. To close the 2019 season, Wincig tallied multiple hits in four of his last five games in helping lead Bucknell to a 4-1 record over that timespan. One of Bucknell's most versatile players, Wincig heads into his final season in Lewisburg ranked in a tie for tenth in career on-base percentage in Bucknell history (.425).
Bucknell begins the season with four games in Cary, N.C. on Feb. 14-16. Bucknell will open the weekend with a game against Penn State on Friday, Feb. 14 against Penn State before a doubleheader with Monmouth on Saturday, Feb. 15. The Bison conclude their opening weekend with a Sunday morning matchup against NJIT.
