Bellini and Leavy Advance to Singles Semifinal Rounds at SJU Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Daniela Bellini and Paige Leavy each advanced to singles semifinals and multiple Bison are still alive in consolation brackets as Bucknell women's tennis completed the second day of play at the SJU Invitational on Saturday.
Bellini began the day with a hard-fought win over Villanova's Lexi DeNucci in the top singles flight. The two players split the first sets 6-4, 6-7 (4) before Bellini willed her way to a 10-6 win in the super tiebreaker. The sophomore went on to defeat Saint Joseph's Stow Weiss in the quarterfinal round 7-5, 7-5. Bellini plays Lindsay Zimmerman from Villanova in the semifinal round tomorrow.
Freshman Dax Seidlin also picked up a flight one singles victory, defeating La Salle's Tiffany Theophil 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round. However, Seidlin would fall 7-6 (7), 6-4 to her Villanova opponent later in the day.
Paige Leavy is still alive in the flight two singles bracket and will face Villanova's Kaylan Rotman in the semifinal round tomorrow. Leavy cruised past the competition with 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1 victories over opponents from both Saint Joseph's and La Salle. Ayuso also earned an opening-round win in the second singles flight, but eventually fell 7-5, 6-4 to Carina Burdick of Villanova.
Freshman Chloe Zilkha reached the semifinal round of flight four with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 defeat of Saint Joseph's Madeline Hill before being defeated.
Cayla Koch, Rachel Carroll, and Jill Auteri will all be competing in consolation bracket semifinal rounds tomorrow as well. Carroll needed to win a quarterfinal round before advancing to her semifinal and did so with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Saint Joseph's Alex Kramer.
Play resumes at the SJU Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
