Koch and Seidlin Earn Doubles Consolation Title on Day One of SJU Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Cayla Koch and Dax Seidlin won the top doubles flight's consolation bracket on a thrilling first day of the SJU Invitational. The Bison also picked up wins in the main draws of each doubles flight, and will have a chance at a second doubles consolation title before singles play begins Saturday.
Trailing 6-1 in the opening doubles match, Koch and Seidlin made a furious comeback to tie things up at 6-6. The pair lost a deuce point, but again brought it back to 7-7. Another deuce point went in favor their Villanova opponents before the Bison forced a tiebreaker. Koch and Seidlin were up 3-1 before eventually losing it 7-5 and joining the consolation bracket.
The tandem then stormed past the consolation competition with a pair of 8-2 wins to seal the title.
Meanwhile, Daniela Bellini and Paige Leavy won in their opening round of A doubles 8-2 over Saint Joseph's Paige Conrad and Anna Kirk, but were defeated in the semifinal round.
In flight two, Jill Auteri and Sofia Ayuso defeated Saint Joseph's Madeline Hill and Alex Kramer 8-2 before falling in the semis.
Freshman Chloe Zilkha and junior Rachel Carroll also picked up an 8-2 victory in flight two's consolation bracket, and will play the championship round tomorrow against Sophia and Ireland Amato of Saint Joseph's.
Singles play starts tomorrow with the first matches beginning at 8:30 a.m.
