ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Three doubles tandems and five singles players are still fighting for championship appearances after a successful first day at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational Friday.
Freshman Dax Seidlin and junior Cayla Koch had perhaps the best outings for the Bison. The duo advanced to the A doubles semifinals after knocking off a pair from Fairleigh Dickinson 6-3, then defeating Lehigh's top pairing 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
Seidlin and Koch also found success in their respective singles matchups. Koch defeated Paula Gonzalez of Lehigh in a thrilling 7-6, (9-7), 6-4 A singles contest, and will play in the quarterfinal round tomorrow. Seidlin won her opening matchup 6-2, 6-1 over St. Bonaventure in B singles.
After receiving a bye in the opening round of B doubles, Paige Leavy and Sofia Ayuso took care of business in the quarterfinals with a 6-1 win over Howard. The two will face Navy's Miranda Deng and Jillian Taggart in the semis Saturday.
Leavy also advanced to the B singles quarterfinal round after winning her opener, and Ayuso will represent the Bison in the D singles quarterfinal after a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lehigh's Leigh Friedman.
Daniela Bellini and Maddie Rippa escaped from the first round of A doubles, but fell in the quarterfinals 6-3. Meanwhile, freshman Chloe Zilkha won her E singles matchup 6-4, 6-0 over Chinonye Gabriel from Monmouth.
Lastly, Jill Auteri and Rachel Carroll beat their Howard opponents 6-0, and will take on a team from Fairleigh Dickinson tomorrow for a chance to see the C doubles championship round.
Bucknell resumes play at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational tomorrow, Sept. 14.
