This Week in Bucknell Athletics

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- What an exciting week ahead in Bison Athletics! We have six teams making their 2019 debuts this week, including a Holmes Stadium doubleheader with field hockey and soccer on Friday. The football team gets to experience an NFL stadium when it faces Temple on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field. The men's and women's cross country team opens up with a race in Pittsburgh, while volleyball heads a bit father west to Youngstown, Ohio. And the women's soccer continues its season-opening homestand before going on the road to play a reigning Final Four team. Some additional highlights:

The Dave Cecchini era kicks off Saturday as the Bison football team takes on Temple on Saturday at 3 p.m. on ESPN3 and Eagle 107 radio. Bucknell and Temple were once longtime rivals, meeting every season from 1927 until 1970, playing for "The Old Shoe" trophy. But this will be the first clash since 1970.
Friday's Holmes Stadium twin bill gets started with the field hockey team hosting James Madison at 4 p.m. Men's soccer follows with Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m. The first 500 fans at the men's soccer game will receive a free tee shirt. We hope to see you at Holmes Stadium, but if you can't make it, both games will be streamed on the Patriot League Network at PatriotLeague.tv.
The volleyball team will face off against The Citadel, Youngstown State and Fairleigh Dickinson at the Youngstown Invitational.
The men's and women's cross country teams debut at the Pitt Panther Opener on Friday evening. The event marks Pitt's first home cross country meet in more than 20 years.
Women's soccer is off to a good start with an overtime win over Robert Morris and a hard-fought double-overtime loss to Pittsburgh. The Bison are back home again on Thursday to face Wright State, and then on Sunday they travel to Washington, D.C., to play Georgetown, which went all the way to the College Cup semifinals a year ago.
