LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell football alumni and friends of the program gathered this past Saturday for the annual Bud Ranck-Tom Gadd Memorial Kickoff Classic.
The attendees, a diverse mix of former Bison players and coaches along with numerous fans and supporters of the program, enjoyed a round of golf at the Bucknell Golf Club under hot and muggy conditions. Later in the evening, they were treated to dinner, a silent auction, a raffle and a season preview from first-year head coach Dave Cecchini and his staff in the Langone Center's Terrace Room.
At the dinner, John Sommers '61 was announced as this year's Ranck-Gadd Memorial Award winner for his contributions and support of the Bison football team. Sommers was a member of the 1960 Lambert Cup Championship team and is a leadership level supporter of the program.Â
The golf tournament format was a scramble. Prizes were awarded to the first- and second-place finishers in each flight's masters and open divisions.
The tournament was founded in 1995 by the late Bucknell head football coach Tom Gadd. In the tournament's second year, Gadd named the event after good friend Bud Ranck, who had passed away earlier that year. To memorialize Gadd after his passing in March 2003, the Ranck family announced at the dinner that the tournament would bear the names of both Bud Ranck and Tom Gadd.
