Four Bison Rowers Earn All-Patriot League Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Four members of Bucknell's Varsity Eight were named to the All-Patriot League Rowing Team on Monday. Senior Emily Gabriel and freshman Erin Sullivan earned First Team honors, and juniors Natalie Minella and Grace Ott were selected to the Second Team. The all-conference selections come on the heels of Bucknell's stellar second-place finish at the Patriot League Championships on Friday in Worcester, Mass.
The Bison won silver medals in all three events -- the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four -- and with 48 points the team finished second to Navy's 54 points. The Varsity Eight outdueled Boston University at Georgetown in quite a battle for the silver medal. Navy crossed the line first in 6:26.834, but then Bucknell, Boston University and Georgetown were all separated by less than a second. The Bison took the No. 2 spot on the final stroke in a time of 6:32.798, followed by the Terriers in 6:32.958 and the Hoyas in 6:33.518. Had Bucknell finished fourth instead of second in that race, the team would have tied for third place instead of second in the overall points standings.
This is the second career All-Patriot League honor for Minella, a junior coxswain from Kennett Square, Pa. Gabriel, Sullivan and Ott all received league honors for the first time.
Sullivan, who was rowing not far from her hometown of Amesbury, Mass., was a significant addition to the team this season and served as the Varsity Eight's stroke. Occupying the 6 seat was Gabriel, a Forty Fort, Pa., native who won Bucknell's Robert A. Latour Service Award at last month's Senior Awards Banquet. Ott, another Massachusetts native (Acton), rowed from the bow seat.
Bucknell's four All-Patriot League selections were the second-most in the league behind Navy, and it was the team's most since 2015.
