Bison claim silver medals in all three events
RESULTS
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bucknell women's rowing team put forth an outstanding performance at the 2019 Patriot League Rowing Championships on Friday on Lake Quinsigamond. The Bison finished second to favored Navy in all three events and took second place in the overall standings. It was Bucknell's best finish since a runner-up showing in 2015.
The Bison claimed silver medals in all three competitions: the Varsity Eight, the Second Varsity Eight, and the Varsity Four. That gave Bucknell 48 points, which was second to Navy's 54 points. Boston University and Georgetown tied for third place with 39 points, followed by Lehigh (30), MIT (22), Colgate (16), Holy Cross (13) and Loyola (8). It was Navy's fifth title in a row, on the heels of Bucknell winning seven straight championships.
"I am so proud of the work and effort of this team," said head coach Steve Kish. "It was a great day to be a Bucknell Bison."
The point system is weighted to emphasize the Varsity Eight competition, and it was quite a race for second place in the Grand Final in that event. Navy crossed the line first in 6:26.834, but then Bucknell, Boston University and Georgetown were all separated by less than a second for the silver-medal position. The Bison took second on the final stroke in a time of 6:32.798, followed by the Terriers in 6:32.958 and the Hoyas in 6:33.518.
Bucknell's V8+ flipped the script on Boston University and Georgetown after the Bison narrowly finished behind those two boats at the Dad Vail Regatta just last weekend.
The 2V8+ posted a time of 6:49.792, which was about four seconds behind Navy and just under three seconds ahead of third-place Georgetown. Boston University, Lehigh and MIT rounded out the six teams in the Grand Final.
The Bison V4+ capped off a strong spring season with a solid second-place finish in the Grand Final. Navy won in 7:34.0, followed by Bucknell (7:37.2) and Georgetown (7:41.8). Boston University, Lehigh and Holy Cross rounded out the top six. The Bison recorded the fastest preliminary time (7:41.37) among the eight entries.
