The Bucknell rowing team has enjoyed a very succesful spring season, highlighted by a strong second-place finish at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia last week, and now the Bison turn their attention to the Patriot League Championships, hosted this year by Holy Cross on Lake Quinsigamond.
The Patriot League Championship consists of varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four races, with points weighted toward the first varsity eight. Points are awarded as follows:
V8: 27-24-21-18-15-12-9-6-3
2V8: 18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2
v4: 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Bucknell finished in third place at last year's Patriot League Championships on the Cooper River in New Jersey. The Bison qualified for Grand Finals in all three events and medaled in two, with the top finish a second-place showing from the varsity four. The varsity eight finished third, and the second varsity eight placed fourth in a photo finish. Bucknell accumulated 41 points from those three races, which trailed only Navy (50) and Boston University (46). The Mids claimed the title for the fourth year in a row. Georgetown and Lehigh tied for fourth place with 33 points, followed by MIT (28), Colgate (15), Holy Cross (14) and Loyola (9).
The Bison are in search of their first Patriot League title since 2012. That was the last in a run of seven straight league championships.
